The sixteenth century brought change to most of the western world. The general upheaval being felt throughout Europe affected the lives of the Jews, as well as the Christians. The Middle Ages had ended and the Renaissance begun. Jewish communities from all over Europe were being expelled. At the same time, the Ottoman Empire was in need of settlers and the nobility of Eastern Europe, soon to become part of Russia, was in need of services that the Jews could provide. National boundaries were not yet set between countries. The different groups of Jews found conditions at each region or locality dependent on the current ruling nobility. This paper will look in a general way at the conditions found by Jews living in the Ottoman Empire, in the sixteenth century, the area of the city of Safed, and the conditions that were found along the border of the

IRANIRAQ WAR
This research paper discusses and analyzes the causes, course and consequences of the war between Iran and Iraq. That war began in September, 1980 and ended with a de facto cease fire in August, 1988. In military terms, the war resulted in a stalemate. Neither Iran nor Iraq achieved their stated war aims. Nevertheless, this war was noteworthy in a number of respects. Its origins were deeply imbedded in very old religious and territorial conflicts between the various regimes which at different times controlled the areas which comprise modern Iran and Iraq. Since the war ended inconclusively, a return engagement may well occur in the future.
The war was the longest and was among the most savage conventional wars of this century. There were also a number of

IS OTHELLO A TRAGIC HERO?
Othello has often been termed a "tragic hero," however, that definition might not be the most accurate or useful one to fully understand the implications of this complex Shakespearean hero. Standard dramatic criticism argues that a "tragic hero," is "a good and noble man brought to a bad end because of some flaw in his character that leads him to the wrong course of action." Implied in that definition are four concepts, or templates, against which Othello can be measured: a) good and noble man; b) tragic flaw; c) wrong course of action; and d) bad end.
A Good and Noble Man
Vivid and suggestive descriptions of both Othello's race and sexual prowess are made throughout Act 1, Scene 1, before the

Islam developed into a major force in the Middle East and the Mediterranean region from the seventh to the twelfth centuries. It became so again under the direction of the Ottoman Turks from the sixteenth to the eighteenth centuries. The first period was the Golden Age of Islam, an age which ended as the Islamic world passed into an extended period of decline. But this decline did not mean the extinction of the core beliefs of Islam. A resurgence would come about after several centuries of retreat and seeming dormancy in the Islamic world. A number of reasons can be offered for the retreat of Islam during this interim period; among them are the military defeat in Spain, the invasion by the Mongols and the Tartars, the burning of the library in Baghdad, and the rise of the Ottomans as a military and political force. Further than these reasons, however, is the

COMPARISON AND CONTRAST
BAHRAIN V.S. EGYPT
History and Politics
The natural environment, especially climate, has played a significant role in influencing politics and government in both Bahrain and Egypt over the centuries; however, they were a more decisive factor in Egyptian political history. Bahrain as a culture dates back to the third millennium B.C., whereas Egyptian civilization (one of the oldest in the world) is more than 6,000 years old. Robison & Greenway commented that Bahrain had "a much more temperate climate 4500 years ago" than it does today (62). The Dilmun Empire in Bahrain was closely connected to the Sumerian religion then practiced in Mesopotamia in which "Bahrain's greenery was central" (Robison & Greenway 64). The

Based on the authentic historical event of the participation of the Anzac troops in the 1915 Dardanelles campaign, Peter Weir’s “Gallipoli” not only captures the tragedy of war, but also the Australians’ valiant assertion of national identity. The focus of the film is on the experiences of the soldiers from the eighth and tenth Light Horse Regiments of Anzacs that were involved in the suicidal attack on the Turkish trenches. In addition, this film also highlights the fundamental opposition between the British and the Australians. The anti-British sentiments in the film represent the formation of a distinctive Australian identity. The portrayal of Australia’s emerging nationhood is humanized with the focus on two young and inexperienced protagonists, Archy Hamilton and Frank Dunne, and their dramatic initiation into manhood (Haltof 27).

COUNTRY STUDY -- SAUDI ARABIA AND EGYPT
This research paper describes, compares and contrasts the principal factors (indicators) which have shaped the respective political cultures, dominant political leadership patterns, institutions and policies of Saudi Arabia and Egypt. They include the natural environment, geographical position, religion and economic constraints and potentials.
I. Historical Evolution of Politics and the State (pre-1950)
Throughout its 6,000 year old civilization, Egypt's politics and state structures have been strongly influenced by its climate which yielded a large thinly populated arid area and a densely populated Nile River Valley whose inhabitants have been dependent for their survival on the effects of rainfall and floods.

SAUDI ARABIA: THE QUESTION OF LEADERSHIP
INTRODUCTION:
Ever since the discovery of massive oil deposits in the Arabian peninsula in the 1930s, the United States has been deeply involved with the politics of Saudi Arabia. That the world's most modern, secular, technological capitalist state would find it difficult to deal with a country that is under the control of an absolute monarchy that is beholden to a version of religion that seeks to maintain a social structure created in the 7th century A.D. means that there will always be tension, and that the question of who runs Saudia Arabia will be of crucial importance to American policy so long as Saudi Arabia sits on twenty-five percent of the world's known oil reserves and the United States does nothing domestically to wean its economy from dependence o
